Chapter Advisor Responsibilities
  • Initiate the organization of a chapter within your high school. This includes the approval of the chapter by the Associated Student Body (ASB).
  • Develop chapter officer election criteria and date for elections. This includes the development of chapter officer responsibilities.
  • Provide leadership training for your chapter officers.
  • Instruct newly elected officers on their roles and responsibilities.
  • Work with your officer team in conducting chapter meetings.
  • Encourage new members to participate in chapter activities.
  • Meet weekly with chapter officer team.
  • Publicize the activities and achievements of the chapter to the school administration, school district, and community.
  • Provide opportunities for parents and advisory committee members to be involved.
  • Facilitate participation of chapter in state leadership conferences and activities.
  • Serve as the adult advisor by attending all chapter activities.
  • Become familiar with the DECA Competitive Events program.
  • Facilitate chapter participation at Area, State, and International Competition.
  • Facilitate chapter fundraisers for participation in Area, State, and International activities.

Educate Yourself!
  • Frequently review the materials on the Washington DECA and National DECA websites.
  • Contact the Washington DECA office to provide your chapter contact information.
  • Contact Ron Cooper, Advisor Development Mentor, at ron@wadeca.org or 206.930.5280 to establish a site visit or mentoring session.
  • Attend the new advisor workshop(s) at the Fall Leadership Conference in late October.
