Penny Harvest: Amazing Service Learning Opportunity for Washington Schools

Give your students the chance to make a powerful change in their own communities by participating in Penny Harvest!
Check out what we do at www.pennyharvest.orgseattle

Penny Harvest is a FREE year-round program that engages students grades K-12 to Gather Pennies, Make Grants to their communities, and follow-up with Neighborhood Service.

Many Penny Harvest schools host the program through DECA because it satisfies and streamlines many of DECA's service and learning goals like communication skills and community service.

Seattle School Board President Cheryl Chow stated, "I believe this is a meaningful way to give our students an opportunity to experience the Community Learning world outside of their school.  I hope that all principals in the Seattle School District consider the program."

Penny Harvest Invites Schools to Teach Youth About Communication and Community

Western Washington area schools have until October 15th to register for Penny Harvest, a youth philanthropy and service learning program specifically designed to engage students with their community, according to Program Coordinator Maryellen Ferro. On October 27th, students around Washington will begin their year-long process of collecting pennies, making grants and completing service projects.

"The Penny Harvest leads itself to the character education, leadership building and caring for others that we desire for all of our students. Our students will become better citizens because of their involvement," said Beverly Raines, Brighton Elementary School Principal. Brighton was among 55 schools that collectively raised $64,333.73, made 90 grants to community based organizations and completed 22 Neighborhood Service Projects last year.
On October 27th, Penny Harvest hopes to engage over 20,000 students in 80 schools in the greater Seattle area. The program is free to schools and includes educational tools for every student, an integrated curriculum guide, and year-round support from Penny Harvest Staff. Schools that would like to register should visit www.PennyHarvest.org/Signup or contact Maryellen Ferro at 206-957-4779 X118. With any questions, interest and excitement, please contact us!
